Who one-on-one is actually for

There are good reasons not to start in a class.

Personal training is not a more serious version of membership. It solves a different problem for people who need privacy, precision, flexibility, or more attention than a group hour is designed to provide.

01

Coming back from surgery or a serious injury

You need someone who will stay with the details instead of handing you a program and walking away.

We start with your history, current restrictions, movement screen, and any medical guidance you are working under, then build the session around what you can do well today.

02

A class feels like too much right now

You may be deconditioned, uncertain about where to start, or simply more comfortable learning in private.

One coach controls the pace, exercise selection, rest, and progression around you for the full hour.

03

A movement problem is worth solving properly

A hip catches, a shoulder will not press, or a back keeps flaring up and generic exercise substitutions have not helped.

We screen the relevant joints and patterns, change what hurts, and work toward stronger movement without treating pain as something to push through.

04

You are already a member and want more attention

There is one lift, pattern, limitation, or goal that deserves more time than a class hour can reasonably give it.

Use one-on-one work to solve that specific problem or move faster while continuing to train in classes the rest of the week.

05

You are a competitive athlete with a deadline

A season, position, recruiting window, or return-to-play timeline creates a more specific problem than a general program should solve.

Athlete one-on-one begins with a scheduled assessment, then programming is built around the sport, calendar, and exact performance need.

Why our one-on-one is different

The difference is in the decisions.

The value is not access to equipment or a harder workout. It is the quality of the person making decisions about what you should do, what you should not do, and what should change next.

01

A full movement screen before programming

We look at posture, breathing, movement, a joint-by-joint orthopedic screen of the spine, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle, injury history, and goals before writing the plan.

02

The LSC System, individualized to your structure

Squat, hinge, lunge, push, pull, and carry remain the foundation. Pattern comes before exercise, and the exercise changes to fit the person rather than forcing the person into the exercise.

03

Pain-free performance is the standing constraint

If a movement hurts, we change the movement, range, load, setup, or exercise. Pain is information for the coach, not a test of commitment.

I am thrilled to be joining the Legendary Strength Company team. As a strength and conditioning enthusiast and someone who competed at the near-highest levels of Greco-Roman wrestling myself, I understand the importance of having the right strength training program and support to help my clients achieve their desired results.

Previously, I utilized my mindset and knowledge as the Performance Director for the Windy City Storm AAA Tier 1 hockey program. As their head strength and conditioning coach, I was part of a team that helped both the U14 and U18 teams qualify for the AAA National Championships, with the U14 team making it to the Final 8, in early April 2024.

Additionally, under my supervision, all age groups of the Windy City Storm AAA Tier 1 hockey program reported a record-low number of injuries throughout their seven-to-eight-month season, and six of the teams, boys and girls, that I coached made it to the State Championship series.

“I'm the original Joey. The one with bigger arms.”
  • NESTA certified
  • Seven years coaching in Orange County
  • Former Saddleback College football player

Joey was born and raised in Palmdale, California. He moved to Mission Viejo in 2012 and has been serving the fitness and health community as a coach for the past seven years in Orange County. He has maintained his NESTA certification for that time span and continues to further his education under the roof here at Legendary Strength Company, led by Director of Performance Steve McCarthy.

Since the age of five, Joey played football and baseball until his sophomore year in high school, when he parted ways with baseball and chose to give his all to football. He continued his football career at Saddleback College, but it was cut short due to a career-ending neck injury. Within the dark of that, Joey found light in becoming a personal trainer, and he has not looked back since.

Joey has a deep passion for delivering results for his clients, but also for making them a better version of themselves, whether it is on the gym floor or within their daily lives. He believes that his clients make him a better coach, and he strives to do whatever it takes to bring them success.

Strength Coach

Kevin Hudgens

“I love to help individuals improve movement quality and achieve levels of strength and performance they did not think were possible.”
  • U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant
  • Five years of military service
  • Operation Inherent Resolve deployment
  • Movement quality and return-from-injury focus
Read coach bio

Kevin’s journey with Legendary Strength Company started long before he became a coach. He began training with Director of Performance Steve McCarthy at age 15 in Naperville, Illinois, through high school athletics and mixed martial arts, building a foundation that shaped his commitment to strength and conditioning for years to come.

After graduating high school in 2016, Kevin served five years in the United States Marine Corps, earning the rank of Sergeant. Stationed at both MCAS Miramar and Camp Pendleton, he maintained exceptional physical and combat readiness standards, oversaw strength and conditioning for his platoon, and deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

While serving, Kevin sustained a right ulnar nerve injury that threatened not just his ability to train, but his long-term strength, health, and everyday quality of life. Despite being told he might not regain full strength, Kevin committed himself to rebuilding. Under the mentorship of Steve, he not only restored his strength but surpassed previous levels, and did so while eliminating pain. That experience fueled his passion for better understanding human performance and real coaching.

At Legendary Strength Company, Kevin continues his professional development under the mentorship of Steve McCarthy and is currently pursuing further education to refine his coaching craft. His goal is simple: help individuals improve movement quality and achieve levels of strength and performance they did not think were possible, just as he did himself.

“Reclaim strength and resilience from the ground up.”
  • 14 years of coaching
  • Foot function and performance longevity
  • NASM CPT and Corrective Exercise Specialist
  • Animal Flow and The Foot Collective
Read coach bio

I have been coaching for 14 years and specialize in foot function and performance longevity.

I grew up as a competitive dancer, competed in powerlifting in my twenties, and now focus on being as strong as I possibly can to keep up with my young daughter, who loves martial arts, and my husband, who is a professional bodybuilder.

My coaching focuses on developing strength that translates beyond the gym. I am especially passionate about foot strength and quadrupedal training because the way we interact with the ground influences everything we do, from lifting and sprinting to simply moving through daily life.

By combining foot function, high-quality movement, and progressive strength training, I help athletes and active adults reduce injury risk, move with more confidence, and continue training at a high level for years to come.

At the core of my coaching philosophy is a simple belief: strength in the gym builds resilience in life. When we build strong bodies, we become more capable humans in and out of the gym.

In addition to coaching in person at Legendary Strength Company, I also work closely with The Foot Collective, where I educate people around the world on the importance of building strong feet.

What a session actually includes

Sixty minutes of undivided attention.

The hour has structure, but it is not rigid. The plan is written in advance and adjusted in real time based on what the coach sees in front of them.

01

Screen-informed warm-up

A structured warm-up matched to what your assessment and recent sessions tell us you need that day.

02

Programmed work

The strength, movement, power, or conditioning work written for your goal and current capacity.

03

Hands-on coaching

Real-time cueing, setup changes, regressions, progressions, and load adjustments for the entire hour.

04

Continuity

Your program lives in the member app and coaching notes carry forward, so the next session starts where the last one ended.

How it works alongside classes

Two valid ways to use one-on-one.

Neither path is the upgrade. They are different ways to train based on what you need.

Path 01

One-on-one only

Some people never take a class and get exactly what they came for. No membership required, no pressure to join.

Starting at $150 / hour
Path 02

One-on-one + membership

Members use private sessions to accelerate or solve something specific while training in classes the rest of the week.

20% off your coach’s regular rateRates vary by coach. The member discount applies to the coach you train with.View membership
You do not need one-on-one sessions to join our classes.

Some people just want them.

An honest structural comparison

The differences are in the model.

No competitor names and no artificial tiering. These are simply common personal-training structures compared with how we choose to operate.

Session commitment

Prepaid packs with expiration dates are common.

One hour at a time. No package required. Sessions do not expire.

Session length

Twenty-five to fifty minutes is common.

A full sixty minutes.

Membership

A monthly gym membership may be required.

No membership required.

Pricing structure

Bundles, tiers, intro rates, and volume pricing are common.

Rates start at $150 per hour depending on the coach. Members receive 20% off that coach’s regular rate. The rate does not change with quantity.

Coach credentials

A single entry-level certification may be the primary qualification.

Kinesiology, NASM CPT and CES, Animal Flow, Foot Collective, Olympic Trials, Team USA, and high-performance program leadership across the staff.

Getting started

It starts with an assessment.

This scheduled step exists because one-on-one programming is written from a full screen. It is not a sales gate and it is not a prerequisite for joining our classes.

  1. 01

    Schedule your assessment

This is a scheduled appointment rather than a drop-in because we want to look at you before we write anything.

  2. 02

We screen and build your plan

Posture, breathing, movement, joint-by-joint screening, injury history, goals, and the practical constraints your plan needs to respect.

  3. 03

    Start training

Book sessions at whatever frequency actually fits your life. No minimum commitment and no package to buy up front.

FAQ

Before the first session.

How often should I train one-on-one?

There is no required frequency. Some people use one-on-one as their entire training plan. Others use it occasionally to solve one specific problem. We set frequency around the goal, schedule, and recovery rather than around a package.

Can I do this if I have an injury or just had surgery?

Often, yes, once the appropriate medical clearance is in place. We do not diagnose medical conditions or replace physical therapy. Bring any restrictions or guidance from your physician or physical therapist and we will coach within them.

Do I have to be a member?

No. One-on-one training stands on its own. You can train here privately without ever joining a group class or buying a membership.

Do sessions expire?

No. There are no expiring session credits and no package clock running in the background.

Can I split sessions with my spouse or a friend?

Personal training is designed and priced as one-on-one work. If you have a specific paired-training situation in mind, talk to a coach first and we will tell you whether it makes sense for both people.

What if I want to move into classes later?

You can, if and when classes become the right fit for you. Personal training is not a prerequisite for joining classes, and there is no required number of private sessions before you can train with the group.

Can you work with my physical therapist or doctor?

Yes. With your permission, we can work from the restrictions, recommendations, and return-to-training guidance they provide so the training plan stays inside the appropriate boundaries.

What should I wear and bring to the first session?

Wear normal training clothes and athletic shoes. Bring any relevant medical clearance, restrictions, or notes you want the coach to review, along with the questions you want answered during the assessment.

Start with the conversation

Tell us what you are working with.

Bring us the injury, the plateau, the deadline, or the thing you have not been able to fix on your own. That is the conversation we want to have.
